Always in the green bin: cardboard egg cartons

Cardboard egg cartons can be composted through your green bin.

Egg cartons are made from recycled, low-grade paper and cardboard and provide a good source of carbon – an important component of quality compost.

In your green bin, egg cartons will help to absorb moisture and smells. You can even use them as a liner for the bottom of your bin to prevent food and garden organics from getting stuck.

If you ever get home from doing your grocery shopping only to realise that one of the eggs has cracked inside the carton, the cracked egg and shell can also be placed in the green bin.
