Always in the landfill bin: old garden tools and materials

Old garden tools and other materials such as hoses, irrigation pipe, rope and strapping that can no longer be used should be placed in your red/blue landfill bin.

For easier disposal, and to save space in your bin, you may like to chop up hoses and pipe before disposing of it.

Why can’t these items be recycled?

Garden tools, such as secateurs, spades, rakes and hoes can damage machinery at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

At the MRF, materials like hose, irrigation pipe, strapping and rope can become entangled with other materials and with the sorting machinery itself, causing contamination and increasing the risk of mechanical breakdown.
